Ahhh finally! +1
How do you write a tale? It'd be fun cause I'm better at that. Not too good with "Clinical Tone" because to me that means "Unnecessarily science-y." (Although with coaching I can get better.)

You make a new page, and tag it "tale". The contribute page has an easy module for doing that. Of course, use the sandbox and get feedback beforehand.
Format-wise, there aren't any requirements for tales besides "it needs to be readable". You can have short tales that are part documentation and part something else, like Flower Girl, you can have tales that are backstories of SCP objects like Thrice, slice-of-life stories with parts of articles like Reality Check, or first-person narration of an entity that isn't on the mainlist, like Greener Pastures. There's a lot of narrative freedom when it comes to tales, but that also means your prose writing needs to be good too. Some find writing tales harder than articles since there isn't any basic structure for tales.
Ok so there are a lot of people who I need to thank for making this thing happen.
TroyL - Greenlighting and administrative support/conceptual assistance
thedeadlymoose - administrative support/conceptual assistance
Crayne - technical guidance (and probably magic idk) and code shit (definitely magic)
LurkD - saving my ass with the pages by author stuff (literally a wizard)
anqxyr - tagging 1500 tales to make this shit work.
And undoubtedly others. This would not have happened without the support of the administration, technical team, and anybody else who contributed. My eternal thanks.
NOTE: There are going to be some issues, and we're going to try our best to work those out. Please be patient with us, and we'll make sure this is working 100% as soon as possible!
MAJOR EDIT NOTE: The current format of the tales page (a much, much improved format) is courtesy of anqxyr, who has put in a lot of work over the last few months to make this as good as it can be. Many thanks to you, anq, we all appreciate it.
Remember, now you can update your pages on the Series and Author Tales [X] lists with short summaries about the tale (like I've done with mine, broken sephirots not necessary). This will encourage more tale readership and is overall a fun update to the tale format. Get blurbing!
This is awesome. I need to get on this.
Wait, how do you do this?
Seconding the motion. How the hell?
The blurb thing on the tale hub page prints the first words of text on the tale it's referencing. Now, if that text happens to be set to size 0% font, it won't necessarily be the first readable text on the tale.
/me ruins all the secrets
Eskobear ruins all the secrets.
Mobile devices ruin that particular trick.
The preview code has been updated to work with the new tale hubs, and hopefully to be easier to use. Anyone who used size:0% shenanigans before are welcome to update their pages to use the new preview component.
Ok, but what if we wanna make our little preview snippet shorter than whatever it currently is? Like, all of my stuff has the preview I want, plus the start of the story. Do I just need to make my snippet longer?
The new preview component should take care of that for you. Just write what you want to write, and it should just work.
Ok, I did the thing, but it's still not doing the thing. Does it take time to update?
Replying to self to reiterate the question: does it take time to update?
I edited the preview component blocks and the hubs are still showing the old preview snippets.
Hmm. Might want to double-check the code with a technical team staff member. There sometimes is a delay for pages to display, but it's usually only a few minutes or so.
Cleared up with anq in chat. Updates twice a week, not, like, as soon as edits are made.
A series of unauthorized and unnecessary edits was reverted. Given that this is the third revert on this page, the page is now locked. Anyone wishing to edit the page should ask for staff permission.
Am I allowed to have like…control back over the page or something or is the lock permanent
I fail to understand your concern. This page is not yours. You did not create it; you did not author its contents. There is no "control" to be given back to you. What are you getting at?
The tale I made, that "Investigation into darkness" one, Am I allowed to get editing powers back when I first created the tale.
That wasn't even this page. Instructions were left on the other page you vandalized on how to retrieve your work. I went ahead and PMed the content to you. Please actually pay attention to the New Member guides which detail how to contribute.
If you're referring to http://www.scp-wiki.net/darkness-of-investigating, you (and practically every user here) can edit it. That being said, only you (the author) has full editing power. Other users can only edit grammar/spelling/punctuation etc.
On top of that, said article is currently under deletion vote. While you can edit it, it will likely not make much change to the deletion vote.
If there was some way a person could find Tales that were posted after the year 2019… That would be great.
I think it has something to do with the page listing generation; there were no recent updates for the more current years. I'll bring this to the Tech Team. Please feel free to reach out to a staff member via wikidot PM if there isn't a response here in a day or so.
Hi,
The Tales Hub is currently undergoing maintenance and re-review, so this current iteration is a fair bit behind on what's it supposed to be.
An update is currently under progress.
