Have at it, troops.
I like this idea, but I feel you will have to work harder than the other two lists to do in order to justify why these are not SCPs.
I'm all for collaborative list articles. I think I'll add an item in a… bit.
EDIT: Is there an adjective other than "anomalous" that can be used? I mean, professionalism and all, but we've already got "Anomalous Items", and we have "Extranormal Events" instead of "Anomalous Events" because it sounds better, so why not give locations something different?
I looked for other adjectives and coldn't find any. If you think of one, let me know.
Friggin' Weird Places.
Yeah, no real ideas here.
I did add the "Pepsi Space Sphere" to the list, though. It's a little bit wordy, won't be offended if anyone cuts it down a bit. I'll take a look in the morning when I'm more rested.
Ehh. No vote for now. Also, question:
A storage warehouse. Any organisms possessing sex chromosomes will spontaneously convert to the opposite biological sex upon entering the warehouse.
What about hermaphrodites? Also, I'm not sure about the "any" organisms bit, since the Foundation wouldn't bother testing all organisms, would they?
Presumably it only affects the two conventionally understood sexes. Dunno, it's not that interesting.
Well, since it's apparently keyed off chromosomal sex, then one's phenotypy matters less. However, now I wonder what would happen for organisms with sex chromosome aneuploidy (the wrong number).
But is the sex change at the physical level or the chromosomal level?
Sorry about the necromancy, but I have theories:
True hermaphrodites (mosaic syndrome with mixed XX/XY cells)- no obvious change; cells swap chromosomes but remain otherwise the same.
Pseudohermaphrodites- sex is altered to reflect the individual as they would have developed had they been born with/without at least one Y chromosome. Possibly lethal for X0 individuals. May result in the cause of the individual's pseudohermaphrodism being rendered moot. (ie an androgenetal XX becoming a normal XY male).
They wouldn't have to test all organisms, really- there's really only two systems of sex chromosomes, XY, and WZ. XY are male when they have a Y and any species-specific secondary factors allow, and WZ are female when they have a W and species-specific secondary factors allow. There's some weird variants within the groups, like Patypuses apparently being on the dividing line between proto-mammals and the reptiles and birds that evolved from them (yep, that order's right) but its mostly that simple.
Experiment: introduce organisms with temperature-dependent sex determination, like certain reptiles.
I feel like locations would warrant more specific containment procedures, and would hold more priority over stuff like objects or temporary events, considering objects can be locked away and events are temporary.
I like it. With mainlist articles being mostly disguised short stories, there's a lot of potential for flash fiction.
I often think a "Persons of Interest" list could be good.
Uh… what exactly is the point of this log? There's no reason why anomalous locations can't go on the log of anomalous items.
(most likely my own opinion) Anomalous locations qualify as SCPs in their own right. And as locations are a lot more limited (in terms of, you can stack anomalous people on top of each other to fit them into smaller spaces) but having entire pieces of land slowly being declared "anomalous" in large numbers as such a log as this would imply would be impractical and impossible to contain
Makes sense. An inclusion of a log if this kind may also eventually hit the perceptual point of "This patch of land is normal. Everything else on Earth is, in one way or another, anomalous."
At which point we might as well close up shop, as the Foundation went from "protectors of normalcy" to "an Illuminati-style organization that tries to make you think reality resembles stuff by Dali and Escher."
If this gets traction, I would be interested in seeing the various locations in the Log of Anomalous Items moved over to this one.
if your reading this your gay
Alternatively, if it doesn't, I would be interested in seeing the various locations in this log moved over to the Log of Anomalous Items. ;p
