This should also be on the Guide Hub.
I second this. Is it listed anywhere else currently? I had to be linked to it after asking staff about the ruling on Patreon links.
This is probably off-topic, but will there ever be a Donation link for the site itself? If there was a way to help 'keep the lights on' around here by donating a small amount monthly, I would do so enthusiastically.
Right now, hosting for the site comes out of my pocket. However, it amounts to fifty bucks a year, and I really don't mind paying it. It's possible those costs may rise one day, but until they do, the site doesn't need the boost.
I will have donation links in my author page, but I want to stress that those will be purely if you enjoy my work. No donations are necessary to keep the site running.
I was wondering about how this site is funded.
This is something I really should have brought up in discussion, but I kept forgetting to: what's the policy on commissioning things on-site? I.e. someone wants to pay me to write for their project/canon, or just write a specific piece, and I charge a flat rate for what I write? Would this be okay?
We are not allowing commissions at this time.
We have just now finally gotten a policy that most of our userbase can live with. We are in the experimental period where we see how this is going to work out. I do not think we need further wrinkles at this time.
When we revisit this—and we will revisit this—we can evaluate how the policy is working out. If it's working out very well, we can decide if we want to expand it to things like commissions.
This all said, we can't police offsite conversations.
I may or may not have clicked "Save" when I meant to click "Cancel", but my point stands: MONEY.
if your reading this your gay
I know the policy says that you cannot set up a donation link for a third party to prevent scamming, but does this also cover linking directly to a recognised charity site (or saying 'hey if you like this work donate to Amnesty International' or whatever)?
Sorry, I was meaning to bring this up in the discussion thread but I didn't think of it until the timer ran out.
Refer to:
You may not set up a donation link for any person or organisation but yourself or the organisation behind a project. You may not advertise anything as "proceeds going to x" where x is any person or organisation but yourself. This is to prevent additional political squabbling and charity scams.
Maybe I have a different understanding of 'donation link' to other people, but this is ambiguously worded and doesn't answer my question (although I'll assume that since you linked that section of the policy, the answer is 'no').
I wouldn't consider, say, www.redcross.org to be a 'donation link', and it doesn't address the question of whether I can say 'please donate to the Red Cross if you liked this article'. A rule against advertising 'proceeds going to X' implies to me that I may not collect money and advertise it as being on a third party's behalf, not that I can't suggest people take their money elsewhere without me being involved.
Donation links are url links to sites that take donations. The Red Cross's donation page being linked in a post is a donation link. Linking directly is still saying that the proceeds of the donation go to an entity that isn't yourself.
We don't want to get into an argument over whether a particular charity is bad (bcause some of them are) and so, yes, it does cover that.
This is to prevent additional political squabbling and charity scams.
This is the particular clause for this question.
I hope that his helps the website to expand further, as it will allow creators for this website to work on it for money. I also hope this doesn't have unforeseen consequences. Lets all hope this website stays cool.
Since SCP-173s picture has been removed should this: 173's picture, for example, can not be used commercially. You may be legally liable to the content creator if you make a mistake with this. Also be removed? Note: I told Jerden one week ago but it seems that it still remains
